SUMMARY:Jacob Wüsthoff Linder (Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU) | Josephine Seminar Series | JSS #6
DESCRIPTION:The consortium is proud to present a series of seminars called Josephine Seminars, in which consortium members, as well as external guests working on topics related to the project’s objectives, will give scientific talks. The seminars will be online and open, i.e. scientists from all over the world can participate. Each seminar will last 45 minutes plus 15 minutes for questions. You can attend the seminar via Visio. Between 3 and 4 seminars are organized annually.\nOur next invited speaker will be\nJacob Wüsthoff Linder\nfrom Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU, Norway\n \n\n\nAltermagnetic Control of Superconducting Qubit Performance\nAbstract:\nSuperconducting qubits are among the leading platforms for quantum computing, but further improvements in coherence, controllability, and scalability remain essential. At the same time, the recent discovery of altermagnets has revealed a new class of magnetic materials that combine vanishing net magnetization with spin-split electronic band structures. This raises the question: what happens when altermagnetism is integrated into superconducting qubit architectures?\n\nIn this talk, I present microscopic calculations of superconducting qubits incorporating altermagnetic Josephson junctions. Focusing primarily on transmon qubits, I show that the strength and orientation of the altermagnetic order provide new control knobs for qubit operation. The resulting qubit spectra, anharmonicity, decoherence rates, and single- and two-qubit gate times depend strongly on altermagnetic material properties and interface orientation. The calculations reveal that the system can simultaneously exhibit strong protection against decoherence and enhanced anharmonicity near 0-pi transitions and in phi-state regimes. I will present the physical origin of these effects and discuss how strain can be used to switch between protected operating points and faster-control regimes. These results show that altermagnetic materials may provide a route toward improved superconducting quantum hardware while also opening a new interface between altermagnetism and quantum information science.\n \n \n\n \n \nRegister now to receive the connexion link: click here ( https://josephine-project.eu/seminars-registration/ )\n\nMark your calendars, and stay tuned for further details.\nOur seminars will take place every three months,\ncovering a wide range of topics on superconductivity.\nWe look forward to connecting with you!\nThe Josephine Project Team\n\n\n
