SUMMARY:Nobuyuki Yoshikawa (Yokohama National University) | Josephine Seminar Series | JSS #7
DESCRIPTION:The consortium is proud to present a series of seminars called Josephine Seminars, in which consortium members, as well as external guests working on topics related to the project’s objectives, will give scientific talks. The seminars will be online and open, i.e. scientists from all over the world can participate. Each seminar will last 45 minutes plus 15 minutes for questions. You can attend the seminar via Visio. Between 3 and 4 seminars are organized annually.\nOur next invited speaker will be\nPr. Nobuyuki Yoshikawa\nfrom Yokohama National University, Japan\nRegister now to receive the connexion link: click here ( https://josephine-project.eu/seminars-registration/ )\nAbstract :\nThe growing energy demands of artificial intelligence motivate the exploration of new computing devices and architectures. Superconducting circuits offer a promising platform for neuromorphic computing because of their fast switching, low energy dissipation, and intrinsic nonlinear dynamics. Single-flux-quantum (SFQ) circuits use quantized voltage pulses that are naturally suited to high-speed spike processing, while adiabatic quantum-flux-parametron (AQFP) logic enables computation with extremely low switching energy. This talk will introduce the operating principles of SFQ and AQFP circuits and review recent progress in superconducting neuromorphic computing. Topics will include programmable spiking neurons, superconducting synaptic memory, and small-scale neural networks. Particular attention will be given to the use of stored magnetic flux and stochastic switching for combining memory and computation. I will then present our recent work on SFQ neurons with rectified linear unit (ReLU) activation and AQFP-based stochastic computing. These examples highlight two approaches: robust, high-speed neural processing using SFQ circuits and energy-efficient computation using the adiabatic and stochastic properties of AQFP devices. Finally, I will discuss the challenges of scaling these approaches, including programmable weights, interconnections, memory integration, and system-level energy efficiency.\nMark your calendars, and stay tuned for further details.\nOur seminars will take place every three months,\ncovering a wide range of topics on superconductivity.\nWe look forward to connecting with you!\nThe Josephine Project Team\n \n \n\n \n \nHere is a provisional, not exhaustive list of topics to be addressed over the years:\n– Devices built with unconventional and high-temperature superconductors\n– Dynamics of Josephson junctions out of equilibrium\n– Electronic elements for neuromorphic computing\n– Superconducting structures with magnetic materials\nThe topics and guests may vary according to the progress of the project and the achievement of its objectives.\n\n
